Start->Chapter 3->Episode 1 To Lucinda
Today I found myself consumed with business affairs as even a man of leisure must sort out his accounts and it was through the gossip of staff I discovered, much to my displeasure that my Aunt by marriage, the indefatigable Ladonna had for some reason gone to speak to my minx. Although I knew that she would never be as ill advised to betray her Dubois name, Ladonna still had strange and undesirable lapses of reason and she would sometimes come close to thwarting my desires, a very dangerous path to follow.
Usually she was quite content to enjoy her decadence and outrageous excesses however she sometimes had this odd streak of protecting innocent urchins who strayed into my path who had yet to enjoy the sweet joy of being corrupted. I however, was not about to allow Ladonna to engage in any behaviour that would distract minxie from my attentions. I waited until Ladonna returned and then gently reminded her that she was bound to the Dubois way of life and an outsider entering our family would of course make certain mistakes which would be tolerated at first, but only at first.
Ladonna gave me her gimlet eyed stare and told me that she understood exactly what being a Dubois entailed but that she had lived a lot longer not being a Dubois and had survived many storms just fine. If I were not so busy containing my minxie I would have enjoyed crossing swords with Ladonna for she would be an interesting opponent and vanquishing a family member would be brutal enough to give any other of my detractors pause for thought. Such is my life now that love has me even sparing those I usually discipline with the brutality which is part and parcel of my heritage. Minxie has changed me without even knowing and I most certainly plan to return the favour.
