Start->Chapter 3->Episode 24 To Lucinda
It appears I was a bit premature in assuming that minxie had put the mountain aside, but then nothing my sweet decides upon should surprise me as vexation appears to be her mission in life. Now he added to the melee in his determination to incur my sanction and so openly pursues her. I discovered this through her gardener-- his son had unwisely attempted to embezzle from one of my companies and now in return he provides me with information about the comings and goings of her household—that Simon had turned up with flowers and then they had left together.
So my dear college chum thought that he would thumb his nose at me, I seem to recall he did once before, so I returned the favour by destroying his relationship with his father and now I will destroy his relationship with her. It would have been nice to have done something immediately to thwart him but that would have required an overt act and I am a gentleman of discretion if anything. I decided that what minxie required was the presence of an old infatuation but in a manner that would cause her enough grief so she would keep the mountain at a distance forever.
I called up my assistant and told him to arrange a casual conversation with my latest investment, the extreme sport market, and to let drop that minxie and Simon had a long term relationship going. I wanted him to think that she had been with the mountain even before their association, one should always have insurance.
I had arranged a bit earlier through another associate to point a duo of delectable creatures at two certain young men as I would like them not to remain unattached during their wanderings. She was only too happy to oblige as one summer we had shared a torrid interest in all things leather and in return I allowed her ownership of a small club, just incase I needed to remind her who owned her soul. I let the plans fall into the water and waited for the ripples, as for the lump of rock if he continued getting in my way I would indeed drag him down any way I could.
It was time to put players in their roles and I called Tim—a sexual acquaintance from college that I had arranged to be employed by Caspar-- I like to keep my friends close and my enemies all in one place. I suggested that Tim contact a person of interest to us both as we required his presence in town. There were times I felt regret that I had lost contact with him—a man after my own heart, who gave new form to malice but this town only has room for one gentleman of leisure and that is I.
