The Intrigue of Secrets

The Intrigue of Secrets

My Aunt slipped away quietly today with some sort of strange delusion that I would not know where she was going or what she was up to. I might not have been privy to her conversations however I do know enough about Ladonna and minxie to surmise they were up to something which the believed would thwart my plans. The idea of them collaborating in order to contain me gave me such amusement that I chuckled most of the day over it.

Shortly after Ladonna drove off I was graced with a piece of information that added the zest to my wonderful cocktail of a day—it truly was getting better and better—when I was informed minxie had run into ape boy at the local supermarket. Their meeting was devoid of any spark of emotion and I realised that I had once and for all put that beast to rest. Minxie would never again run into his arms for comfort and my day was again enriched by my success.

My sister Liselle drifted into my house and I waited for her to do whatever it was she had to do but Liselle did not appear to have a direction today and floated around gazing at my office in detached ennui. Bored of waiting for her to communicate I decided to amuse myself by informing her of Ladonna’s little visit to minxie. Her reaction surprised me, well it was a surprise in the sense that Liselle asked a direct question which was something she rarely did when it concerned my private affairs. She wanted to know just what Ladonna was up to but I feigned indifference for I believed she was no longer interested in my little war with the minx however I was surprised when she turned to me and said that I should leave the girl alone once and for all.

I watched her inadvertent spark of fire and was reminded of the girl of our youth, the one who had me burn at nights when she was sent away to school. I still remember how close we had been, how I had been seduced with the artic beauty that had returned and until minxie no other woman had consumed my attention like my sister and I was damned if I would give either of them up. I looked carefully at Liselle and realised she had a secret, she was hiding something from me, something that Ladonna was not only aware of but acting upon as well, now this raised the ante a fair bit and intrigued me at the same time. All the women of my household were conspiring against me and a new passion consumed me for I had to discover just what they were up to as secrets were not allowed unless they were my own.

I smiled at Liselle and said “You have a secret,” in our past that would have been enough for her to give it up for she had learned much to her dismay that keeping a secret from me was not only futile but I would often expose it just to punish her for having one. This time she was not so amenable and I watched as she became remote while she distanced herself from the conversation. Her replies were vague and words were left hanging in the air as if they had no direction or purpose so I learned my sister not only had a secret but one she was willing to antagonize me for in order to keep. She left me without speaking and I sat in my chair happily whistling to myself for it looked as if my amusements were being planned for me by my very own family. Secrets, minxie and intrigue, I was pleased beyond compare as today was indeed a very, very good day.
