Near Journey's End

Near Journey's End

Minxie has been lying low and obviously mum for there was none of the gleeful murmur of rumour humming in the thoughts of this town. I was certain one of her fluff minded friends would spill the beans but since no one appeared the wiser I realised that the only way this was going to be scandal was if I made it one myself. Whilst I delight in the shock of placing private lives in the limelight I prefer not to be the creator of this energy I find it far more satisfying to plant the seeds and wait for the fruit of the poisonous tree to contaminate the entire orchard.

As I sat back pondering how to enable this glorious bit of truth I was told that the mountain had decided to impose himself upon the minx and for the second time this week I was not amused by the presumptions of others. He really should have the good grace to realise he has been vanquished, the look of revulsion upon her face at the moment of revelation had been one of my greatest pleasures in the last few months, surely the fool did not require another reminder of his inglorious past. Minxie pushed him out the door at a reasonable hour and I knew theirs was no liaison of the present.

My sister has drifted back in to her affair with the wine baron now that his hag of a wife was occupied with Caspar yet again, why these harridans never realise that they are nothing more than tedious with their squeals of gorgeous darling and wallets snapping open to buy whatever their little vacant hearts desire. I decided that Liselle was going to the one to drop this little gem into the pool of gossip while I would remain absent watching it ripple into a glorious scandal. After keeping that little secret about minxie she owed me and would continue paying if she did not want me to take it out of her in a more intimate manner.

While I left my sister to do my bidding I was left again with the perplexing problem of trying to destroy a wedding. I discovered much to my chagrin that the two lovebirds were disgustingly clean in past and lifestyles. I suppose I could remove the girl from her place on the soap as she had replaced Lynx as the main character but she always had her family fortunes to fall back on. I had sent a few lovelies to ensnare the groom in a one last fling but he was not interested. What sort of man is not interested, even in my most obsessed moments of minxie I still had the energy to inflict my whims upon the songbird who worked for the Sedero’s. I considered false innuendo but again their blissful demeanor would overcome such tactics. Could I buy them, burn them, bully them, badger them, break them-- thoughts swirled around and around as I considered how to devastate the very last friends of minxie. They had a brief breakup when he was protecting his father from the lies of Nadia but I doubted that could be revived even as a ghost.

People who believe they have nothing to hide delude only themselves; they are just too moronic to see the slippery slope they are wandering down. So if the bride and groom are the strong links in the chain perhaps it’s time to see just what weak links are and how far they are willing to go to protect them. I had nearly finished my task and minxie would be left open and vulnerable and mine, no family tie, no blood relationship would protect her from the fire burning in my core. I would sear her flesh with mine and if I have to destroy this entire town to do so I shall.
