The Puzzle of Life

The Puzzle of Life

My dear cousin Elyce has left her usual trail of destruction behind and glided back into the compound, remote and self contained in her glacial beauty. I was pleasantly surprised to see her act less the petulant miss and see she had embraced her heritage of refined cruel indifference. Had I not been so preoccupied with my destruction of minxie I would have considered exploring her charms in a more personal manner and although I toyed with the idea I realised she would have enjoyed it far too much for my preference. Instead I felt dear Elyce was not participating in familial activities with the dedication of a true Dubois. This beautiful snow maiden had finally blossomed into another ice queen and she was going to help me bring down this farce, this ludicrous mimicry of happiness, this impending wedding. For my entire focus was upon destroying the last two of her friends who had any happiness as minxie’s world was about to become very, very small.

Lynx to my surprise had not completely tired of the younger Vandersop and he was still entrenched in her bed while the ape boy appeared unconcerned with this development. His lack of attachment was rather reminiscent of his father and it warmed my heart to see how you can remove the family from the gutter, even for a generation and yet they still insist upon playing there. The only one who had managed to avoid the Sedero curse was the delightful confection of a daughter. She was so pure the girl would gleam in the sun and thoughts of her stirred my loins in such a disturbing manner that I seduced a young thing in my office without much ado. Before the girl could decide she might not have wanted my attentions I filled her pockets with glittery baubles and transferred her across country to an invented promotion. My administration knew how to deal with these transfers and in six months she would have made some inadvertent mistake which supposedly cost the company a great deal of money. The girl would be let go in a flurry of tears but with a good reference as I was a kind and generous man.

Liselle had done my bidding admirably and the town sang to the song of scandal with such delightful glee I even allowed myself the pleasure of eavesdropping upon the gossip myself. Everyone wanted to know the story of minxie and her hidden Dubois past, of course a few older board members had known, for how else could have Axel left her such a large sum of money without my knowledge, and these fools would pay for this discretion with their souls if need be. I was not a man to be thwarted in any manner in any era and I left my thoughts of revenge behind, determined to enjoy the Dubois-ation of minxie. She had been hiding in her house with the Nordic lovechild of the wine baron, the songbird I had dismissed in a fit of pique who is now signed with one of my indie companies so she will think she is out of my reach which suits me at this moment. I think next time I should wait longer before striking as then she would have more to lose, she would be fearful of returning to her previous status and would be far more obedient to my desires.

If minxie was aware of the gossip she showed no sign when she left to visit the vapid daughter of the baron, this was the same creature who managed to make a night of dark lust so untenable that I fed her gems to just get rid of her. She reminded me of a deer caught in the headlights, frozen, pointless and I was only too happy to relinquish her soiled remains back to her father. Unable to visit the household while the baron was in residence I did not venture near the winery unless I knew he was being kept occupied by my sister. Although his wife was not concerned by my presence, there for I told a different story to the truth of my encounter with her daughter, as I was able to pass it off as a huffy teen running away from home. Of course I kept her safe from all those nasty predators out there, the hag was only too happy to believe whatever lies caused the least thoughts in her brain. I sat in my office holding all the pieces to my puzzle trying to put them together so the picture made sense. I had the son with Lynx, I had Elyce back in town, I had ape boy at loose ends, and since I might need him I decided to send Elyce out to keep him amused. Once never knows when an ape can come in handy.
