Start->Chapter 5->Episode 26 To Lucinda
“All warfare is based on deception. Hence, when able to attack, we must seem unable; when using our forces, we must seem inactive; when we are near, we must make the enemy believe we are far away; when far away, we must make him believe we are near. Hold out baits to entice the enemy. Feign disorder, and crush him”.---Sun Tzu The Art of War
In some deluded rescue fantasy the dimwit brother of the lovely confection decided to enlist the aid of minxie, no doubt in an effort to prevent any interference in his sister’s upcoming nuptials. Of course I realised what was afoot when someone happened to mention seeing his car turning into minxie’s drive that morning and I had to laugh at the impossible stupidity of those who actually believe they could determine their own course in life. The Sedero fool had played his game twice with the minx and would not be received with kindness nor understanding however her affection for his sister could soften her enough to allow his jackboot in the door and from there who knows what idiocy might ensue. I decided to observe from a discreet distance and was actually considering adding myself to the mix when they suddenly emerged from the house and drove off. I followed them to town to discover the ape boy had taken her to none other than the family restaurant for lunch.
At first I pondered at his inane stupidity but then I realised that it would be foolish to underestimate even the witless thoughts of an ape boy. The location at this particular time had indeed been carefully planned, to ensure minxie was surrounded by memories of her friendship for this girl and playing upon that affection he no doubt would try to re-enter into her good graces. The boy was persistent if anything. I could not allow the monkey any leeway as I had plans for his delectable sister, albeit they were not the carnal ones of joy I had envisioned but a broken heart is as good as anything else to me. I called in the usual suspects and gave them my instructions, to ensure the ape boy and the minx did not enjoy the quiet tete a tete he had planned.
Always one to take advantage of a moment I decided to kill two birds with one stone and enlisted both Ladonna and my sister to encroach upon their luncheon. Ladonna I knew would be unhappy to intercede for although she loved being party to the intrigue, she appeared to be concerned over minxie’s welfare so threat became the language of our interaction. Liselle was her usual reluctant, uninvolved self but a small remark concerning rendezvous with a certain wine baron becoming public knowledge suddenly had her compliant to my wishes. Caspar was only too willing to join in the confusion as anything that removed him from the clutches of Cameo and her relentless pursuit of marriage was welcome. I resisted the urge to add myself as much as I would have adored watching the frustrated ape boy ward off Ladonna I knew this would only be the straw that had minx storm out, perhaps with a relieved fool in tow and I would want him to be anything but relieved.
I called one of the waiters, a pretty boy who amuses me from time to time when I feel the urge for some semi feminine company and the obliging creature gave me a fairly comprehensive description of events. Once I was certain the message was clear to both parties I ensured ape boy left abruptly leaving minxie abandoned to the joys of a family meal. As usual I ensured my presence was more powerful in my absence. I am near, I am far, I am active, I am inactive I feign disorder and she will be crushed.
