Start->Chapter 5->Episode 30 To Lucinda
Minxie gathered her allies around her like a warm cloak and spent the day plotting my demise. How did I know this, did I have inside knowledge, was she betrayed by someone near and dear to her? Nothing so dramatic for it would take no genius to expect the wrath of death from young ladies deprived of the opportunity to be a bridesmaid. Their silk dresses hung untouched in their wardrobes while stylist chairs remain unfilled, and if jewelers anticipated a late run on their merchandise by dissatisfied toadies then they too were to suffer the discontent of empty shops. I had indeed brought the entire town to its collective knees when I ensured the wedding of the year did not proceed. The great houses of Vanderhaven and Sedero were not to unite under the auspicious circumstance of wedded bliss.
I left minxie along with her avenging angels for this was one meet I did not require knowledge of, their paths, their train of thought even their reactions were so predictable that I could have preconceived every move in advance, the only slight twist which in reality was scarcely a mark upon the landscape of my world was the addition of my cousin Elyce. There to stir the pot no doubt under the guise of supporting her new wonderful cousin. Elyce was never one to miss an opportunity, how reminiscent of Liselle she is, a pallid, shadow version of the ice queen herself.
I allowed myself a day in the sun and while I enjoyed coffee amongst the vulgar rabble whom I usually eschew I realised that minxie and I had come to an impasse for now she must either succumb to my wishes or be the last victim on my list. I decided to leave her to whatever tempestuous storms she was enjoying at the moment and amuse myself with a trip to a little songbird. She had been allowed to record a song of dubious nature in my studio and in return I shall visit upon her all the whims of my capricious nature. What promise the future holds, what joys and torments, what divine promise of destruction, minxie is finally mine.
