Start->Chapter 5->Episode 5 To Lucinda
You would think today that my anger would be directed at my sister for removing that bit of fluff I was playing with but our short but expensive interlude had already wearied me by the time she showed up with the local wine baron. Instead it was she who exhibited anger at me as she unleashed a fury I had not seen since our teen days when father cut short her original romance with the Vanderslop and posted her off for some European finesse. It was something all the Dubois did in order to remove the stench of the local mundane from our behaviour and while she left a fiery ball of fury, she came back an icy goddess who could amuse herself with any man within reach—even me. But what does my darling sister do instead of enjoying her new found power, she pines for the slop himself who had in the meantime married an ornamental hag. The arrival of his spawn nearly killed her for it meant he was touching said hag and Liselle, rather than face her internal fury, slowly became absent from the interludes of life.
As soon as the Vanderfool left with his daughter Liselle turned her icy glare upon me allowing me to see a glimpse of pure emotion, exciting and raw and left without a word. Today was the day that I bore the full brunt of her furious objection as she informed me that life with me was no longer acceptable, my behaviour was intolerable and I had managed to interfere in her affairs once too often, these were harsh words coming from a sister who had spent her entire adult life someplace else in her mind. When opposed she would usually seek a discreet distance, bide her time and then destroy the offender, often without them even knowing, for she was the most deadly of her species, a woman with nothing to lose. I heard her arguments and it was to my credit that I did not yawn in the middle of them as I wondered if a good whipping would bring her to her senses but instead I meekly apologised and said I thought she was merely amusing herself, after all it had been over twenty years and he was not in the first bloom of youth. Liselle gave me a baleful stare which if she had the choice would have killed me but fortunately I was somewhat immune and let her rant until she glided away her fury crackling in the air behind her.
Her final words were about minxie of all things, she said she would return the favour and ensure a certain little miss was never within my reach. Of course I was not perturbed at all, my sister as lovely as she is will be no match for me, and minxie is already mine and simply does not know it.
